I just saw this today on my “recommended item” list from Amazon:
It says that the Hue Hub is required.
Does anyone know if that’s true or can this be paired to a standard Zigbee controller without the hub?

Probably it’s not added yet to any of the ZigBee controllers as it is a relatively new device. But I don’t see any reason for it not to work with any of the other ZigBee controllers. For deconz almost any Hue device is supported and new devices get added relatively fast depending on the demand.
Do you know how someone could check to know if support has been added to zha? I don’t use deconz. I use the HUSBZB-1 stick with ZHA.
You could check out this page and see if your device is already supported.
Failing that, it will cost you 20 bucks to be a Guinea pig
I’ve been a guinea pig way too often.
I already have a stack of stuff that I’ve bought that should work but either doesn’t work, partly works or that works fine but I’ve outgrown/updated and no longer need.
That’s a LONG thread! I’ll have to dive in later and see if there is any info on it.
I think I posted on that thread at some point in the past but completely forgot about it.
The search button will hopefully provide some help
it’s not relevant to ZHA, but fyi

I …almost…went with zigbee2mqtt at one point.
I actually bought and programmed the USB zigbee dongle just so I could try to get some Bosch motion sensors working (by being a guinea pig since they weren’t supported yet in zigbee2mqtt) that I bought not knowing that they weren’t supported by ZHA at the time (another one of my forays into being a guinea pig).
I ended up getting them working in zigbee2mqtt (yay!) but then I hadn’t switched my zigbee bulbs over from ZHA to zigbee2mqtt yet when the ZHA integration was updated and the Bosch motion sensors were suddenly supported there. So I abandoned the zigbee2mqtt dongle (which I still have in my guinea pig pile and could use if needed) in favor of ZHA.
I think I remember shying away from zigbee2mqtt due to concerns over range issues with the dongle but maybe it’s time to revisit it again…
I’m waiting on the new z wave implementation and may switch both over to mqtt at that point (plus say 3 months, so I’ll avoid the bleeding edge)
I wonder how long the transition will be for that until the old pythin OZW will be deprecated?
I’ve just bought z2m dongle too… with antenna on it
But I can’t test it, as I don’t have any zigbee devices yet
You remind me of a guy who started buying CD’s in 1986 and bought his first CD player in 1991
I know I am adding no value whatsoever to this thread. But that didn’t half make me chuckle
you gotta start somewhere.
I just got one of these. When adding to zha, it only shows up as a battery sensor… No switch entity or other sensors show up in HA. So right now there’s no functionality with zha that I can see.
Did you check if the device fires events instead of showing as an entity? Some integrations work this way.
Well, that sucks.
thanks for the info, tho.
Hopefully the ZHA guy can add it soon if that’s even how that works.
Are there even any ZHA events?
I’m honestly not sure how to know if something like that is even available.
