Thanks. How exactly do you mean “delete the esphome integration with the old node name”? In SMB Share?
Just in the HA Integrations. For your yaml with the old node name you can then just delete it (for example via smb share if it it’s “remote” on your ha serverr) as you have the new yaml with the new device name.

Thanks. Don’t ask me how but I literally had thousands of files in the esphome folder. And I have only configured two devices, changed their names once or twice, changed its ip’s etc. Maybe fiddled a bit in the beginning as well, redid the process once or twice. Now there is 197 Files in 51 Folders, for one device, adopted with the proper name and ip from start.
That’s okay. All the magic esphome does for you is in there 
You deliver a receipt (yaml) and esphome does validates it, downloads libraries and stuff and compiles into machine code it then uploads to your node
