Fibaro Switch sometimes not working

Hi,

I have 8 Fibaro Switches of models FGS-223 and FGS-213 ZW5 v3.3. Most of them work as expected without significant delay. But 2 of the double switches (223) “work when they care to” - I couldn’t identify any reasoning for when they “decide” to work and when not. The phenomenon I’m seeing is the following (might be similar to some other bugs reported on this forum but not exact):

  • Only sometimes responds to on or off commands, most of the times it doesn’t, or at least it seems to escalate as soon as I try several times in a row
  • HA frontend sometimes delays in showing the real state (i.e. if gave command to turn on, the button moves to on, then off, then (sometimes) after a while moves to on again - very very confusing)
  • Sometimes one of the switches does not respond until turning on/off the other switch (these are 2 switches on the same zwave node as this a FGS-223). this is the weirdest phenomenon and cannot be sure if true or just luck…
  • The Fibaro switches tick when changing state - it seems it is not a HW issue as I can witness that the module ticks only on the cases where it actually responds to the command from HA (not sure if this logic is correct though)

The situation is intolerable and puts for me the whole idea of home automation in question (as one of the switches controls a critical application for me).

On the zwave log I could identify some errors on the node009 (this is one of the problematic switches), but I don’t know the zwave log good enough to analyze the issue.

here is some part from the log that looks relevant: (I can share the complete log if needed)

What does your mesh look like?

Thanks tom_l for reaching out.
I’m running Hassbian on RPI3 and newbie to HA and Linux. Not sure where can I find the panels directory to install the graph file. When using SSH or Samba, I can see only the folder with the configuration.yaml and so on…

I have this issue too. It seems to relate to to be the same as [ Long delays and switches getting out of sync - zwave](Long delays and switches getting out of sync - zwave)
However I can’t find what device is causing the trouble. I am running HAS with docker on a NUC with plenty power and memory and using a Aeotc Gen 5 Zwave Stick as controller. I have 6 Fibaro switches, one TKB switch and 4 Neo coolcam battery powered multi sensors and 2 neo Coolcam switches. One of the Fibaro switches (node 7) is at the farest end apprx 20m from the controller. Between this node and the controller are more AC powered nodes that should ensure coverage of the mesh network (node 4, 6, 8, 23).

Searching in the ZW log , I found ‘There is no SUC ID server in the network’ (see log fragment below).
On the Net i found this article Can I configure that?, Should I? and How?

Unfortunately openzwave seems to be absolutely terrible. I’m experiencing the exact same issue, different nodes each time. Sometimes the node that is 10cm from the controller. I have around 20 nodes in my network.
See this post

I’m hoping that they will have a look at the zwave implementation very soon as they said they would in the “Thinking big” blog post. The hope of better zwave is the only reason I’m paying the monthly fee. I really like HA but if nothing is done about zwave I will be forced to change system.

Hi,

Not sure about the other posts on this thread, but at least to my problem, the assumption is that the culprit is the Fibaro module itself, when the load is too high (but not high enough to cause a damage) or when using the module with LED lights (which according to the manufacturer, is not supported). I do have many of these modules controlling LED lights, but they are all different lamps than the one that gives the problem. It seems that the solution is to install in parallel to load a component called RC Snubber that ‘consumes’ some of the load. The explanation for the LEDs that do work is that these lamps already hold inside a RC Snubber.

This is the RC Snubber I ordered. I will report back here once received and installed if solved the problem.

Cheers.

I’m sorry to report that the Snubber did not solve the problem.
I really don’t know what can I do next to solve the problem.
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
