Full device or individual outlet energy monitorinng?

I am currently using the Energy area of HA but just for my washer/dryer. Have a wall plug that is Z-Wave and connected to HA. But that’s it.

I see those devices out there that connect to the mains in your breaker box and somehow read the energy from the wires. I assume if you go with something like that you basically say the house is drawing X power and don’t include any separate items like my washer/dryer?

Is this accurate? Any value in a single reading from the breaker box?

Edit: Forget the Iotawatt it does not work well with home assitant. Having some experience with this device now I strongly advise against it.

Devices like the Iotawatt can monitor up to 14 individual circuits in your house.

Or you can continue to use your smart plugs for individual device information and monitor the whole house with something like the Shelly EM for total consuption and billing. It’s what I do.
