General Question HUBs

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, so I hope I’m in the right category. I have a general question about the difference between using brand-specific hubs like Hue and Tradfri versus native ZHA/MQTT setups.

Background:
I have several Ikea Tradfri smart home devices set up via ZHA on my network. While the setup kind of works, I’ve faced issues with battery consumption and the reliability of my automations. For example, sometimes the light doesn’t switch off when I press the “off” button on the shortcut, and the connection even gets lost at times.

Question:
How can I improve device integration, specifically using ZHA with Home Assistant Yellow?

Goal:
As for many others my overall aim is to minimize the number of hubs while maintaining reliable usage…

I’d appreciate any answers or links for further research.

Best,
Deripsni

How many is several, and are they routers or end devices? Reliable Zigbee networks need a large number of routers.

This is a good starting point:

Also good reading Improve network range and stability | Zigbee2MQTT

Don’t be fooled by the fact it is part of the Z2M docs, it is all good advice.

Very Helpful indeed!
putting the Hub next to my WIFI router wasnt the best idea…
Also number of devices to low
