Google is killing software support for early Nest Thermostats

Interesting… When I change the temperature on my NEST I still see it also in Home Assistant… The I change it in HA nothing happen.

So basterds still can see what my temperature will be on my NEST… haha

Basically they can still monitor how many people still gonna use the NEST even its not controlled anymore outside the house…

You can apparently still change the temperature on the Nest website.
EDIT: On 28/10 at 1pm my thermostat became totaly unavailable.

Since this morning my thermostat is Unavailable marked in HA.

Yes you can, and it will be supported until expire date!

Talking about nest thermostat. Version 1 and version 2 will stop.
If you have a version 3 (2015 top off my head) is still working without any problem. Google didn’t say they will kill version 3 and version 4.

Note that “expire date” or “lifetime” normally doesn’t mean “as long as device doesn’t die”, but it’s a predetermined time, usually 5-7 years. It’s the same as time until replacement parts are guaranteed.

I know. You are correct.
In Europe (I think world wide) these smoke detection devices have a 10 year lifespan.

Again talking about “Nest Protect” there is a expire date printed on them.
And yes, google will support them within this time periode.
After expire date Google will not.

Coming back to people wondering if they should buy this product?
My answer is yes. because google will support them until date (That is printed on device) runs out.
