Govee integration

No, and I have been asking this since the day I added them to my home. From what I have been told, it is an API issue at Govee. The only thing is that you can turn on and turn off the lights and they will go back to the previous scene they were running. HA only gives you on, off, dim level or color. That is it.

That is frustrating and disappointing to hear, as Alexa can be instructed to apply a Govee scene to some of the strips. /shrugs

This works via my Alexa Media Player HA integration. Iā€™ll add it to an automation instead of calling Govee directly.

I think i figured it out by disabling the Polling option in the Configuration

I actually ticked both of them off
seems this was adding to the polling

It appears to be possible to get H6125 variant bluetooth LED strips working to an extent - albeit not with this integration that I can work out thus far. @LaggAt could this be included perhaps (or beta testedā€¦ Iā€™m more than happy to help troubleshoot!)?

See here: https://github.com/timniklas/hacs-govee-bluetooth-lights

ā€¦And also here: https://github.com/Beshelmek/govee_ble_lights

Interestingly there appear to be two different hardware versions of this same device, I have both versions:

Version 1:
The Bluetooth device name starts with ā€œihoment_H6125_ā€
I think this is the older version as firmware is locked to version 1.08.08 and cannot be updated.

Version 2:
The Bluetooth device name starts with ā€œGBK_H6125_ā€,
I suspect this is the newer variant and the firmware was updated to version 2.06.15

It appears to be theoretically possible to get H6125 Govee Light strips working with home assistant.

I have three of these strips, all bought around the same time, but one is the older version (ihoment) and the other two are the newer version (GBK)

Both devices can be switched on and off, but I can only change the colour on the 'ihoment_H6125_" variant.

If anyone could pick up on this, that would be great!

You are a life saver!! I got those strips agggesss before I even new HA existed, and thought I was completely stuck, thanks so much, im using the ihomemt version and can confirm that changing the colour and brightness work for me too. Thanks so much

Funny thing though, my Govee app says the ā€œHardwareā€ version is 1.00.04 which is weird considering yours has a newer firmware compared to mine, but clearly doesnt effect it in any way

Do you have to turn the lights on first then call the scene, or does calling the scene also turn the lights on?

Also, is your scene a snapshot in the Govee app?

That sounds lucky to me

If a new firmware update does come out (I doubt it, the hardware version number is also different for my ihoment strip)ā€¦ avoid it !

Whatever Govee have done behind the scenes would probably stop you being able to change the colour of your lights.

Interestingly, even in the govee app, since the new firmware my lights donā€™t match the colour wheel either, blue = yellow, and yellow = blueā€¦ so clearly a somewhat buggy release. Govee are sending me replacement/s so fingers crossed they work a bit better! ā€¦ their customer service does seem to be decent at least

My GBK_ lights wonā€™t even change colour.

Just tried the ihoment_ light with ā€˜effectsā€™, nothing happens at all.

@benjamano do effects do anything for you?

If you set a scene in the govee app, turn the lights off and then turn them back on through home assistant (however you choose to do this), the lights do remember the scene that was last used. Not ideal, but itā€™s a somethingā€¦

You also cannot take full advantage of customizing groups of LEDs along the strip, they have to all be the same colour - for me at least, so there are definitely limitations!

One day, I think Iā€™d like to do a bit of tinkering and just change them over to WLED, see if I can repurpose the microphone in the govee controller or somesuch.

II wonder if swapping out the controller board for a more compatible version might work ? ā€¦obviously that would be assuming one could get hold of an alternate controller board second hand  I really do wish manufacturers could be less wasteful - a hot-swappable controller board that one can upgrade at a later date would be amazing! ā€¦ even if it needed a wee bit of soldering, I wouldnā€™t be averse.

This also works for me, but itā€™s really frustrating to have such a great set of lights (mine are the H619C) and not have full control.

I have a set of these lights around the underside of a bed and wanted to use a motion sensor in HA to turn on a small section on the relevant side of the bed when I get up in the middle of the night. I can set the lights up in a Govee snapshot, but Govee LAN doesnā€™t expose enough data to HA to allow it to do that.

I wonder if an ESP32-WROOM with https://install.wled.me/ might be a better option all round

Either that, or see if whatever chip in the Govee controller is ESP compatible or able to be flashed.

I took one of my H619C controllers apart to see what the chip was:

So it looks like one of these https://www.e-paper-display.com/products_detail/productId%3D529.html

I might get myself some suitable components and have a play.

Cool idea re: nightlight under the bed!

For that youā€™d really need a WLED setup, as far as Iā€™m aware, even with the lights that support local api access, itā€™s not possible to control individual sections of the light. You would have to pre-set the lights in GOVEE and just use home assistant to turn the light on/off.

I use mine around the living room, so would appreciate this kind of control when e.g. watching the tv and being able to automatically switch off certain sections of the strip to avoid annoying reflections.

Re: controller swapping, if you do work out a good solution, do post back!

Yeah, but that only works if I get out of bed. If my better half gets out the other side :man_shrugging:

The parts are ordered so Iā€™ll post back if I figure out how to get it to work.

The LED light strips do not have to be on. Calling the ā€˜modeā€™ turns them on. My screenshot is from Home Assistant. Adding a screenshot from my automation to turn the lights off via Alexa.

Can you add support for the H601A? let me know if you need any thing I have 1 spare light im willing to help what ever way possible.

Has anyone been able to get this to work with H7015?

Govee Outdoor String Lights H7015 with 15 Dimmable RGBIC LED Bulbs, 48ft IP65 Waterproof Shatterproof Halloween Decorations, Color Changing Warm White Lights with 47 Scene Modes for Balcony, Backyard"

ā€¦then you need to just set their side and you stay in the dark, no?

I look forward to your reporting back on the controller!

Iā€™ve got some replacement strips from Govee on their way as mine were behaving really strangely even with the app for me (blue ā†’ yellow, yellow ā†’ blue etcā€¦ be interesting to see if there is a difference in how the new ones behave.

Absolutely! The WAF trumps everything else.

Its a long shot does anyone know how to connect a Govee H6102 LED Strip - That has BlueTooth only?

Hi All

I just got some Govee strip Wifi and Bluetooth lights setup for my kids wardrobe using a switch sensor to turn them on when she opens the door. Works great using this Govee cloud integration (so thank you very much for sorting this)ā€¦

I have run into a small issue where the Govee lights seem to go to sleep and not respond after some time.

I found the temp workaround to be to open the app and let the app connect to the lights via Bluetooth. This gets them up and running but after a few hours of no use, they go back to this stateā€¦

Anyone seen this and got an idea on how to keep them awake?

I have the same issue with one of mine, usually I have to power cycle it to get it back on the Wi-Fi. I have 4 Govee strips total. For the 2 I use the most, I swapped the controller with these a year ago, which work WAY better. One of these days Iā€™ll probably buy another 2 pack.
