It’s not so much the hardware on echos and HomePods that are superior to voice, it’s the signal processing. I doubt that hacked devices will be better than spending $5 on a microphone from aliexpress.
The solution for voice working better in a noisy environment is likely a more expensive device using a more expensive microphone system designed for conference rooms. The big tech companies give this functionality away for essentially free to get into our homes. Nabu casa doesn’t have that option. They need to pick the best available off the shelf hardware to meet their target price point.
