HADashboard weather with WUnderground

I like very much Hadashboard, that’s why I stick here.
If you want I can say its beautiful and it all works great, or say nothing (like probably many that tried the component, had all sort of problems and abandoned it all together), or I can say to you all what its not working (from a dumb user perspective with little to none experience as programmer, like me, I wish I could be more helpful in debugging, unfortunately I am not good enough to do it)

You tell me how to behave, I will obey instantly!!

Peace and Love :stuck_out_tongue:

As a moderator I’m telling you to stop being sarcastic, and being negative in your feedback. I am reluctant to lock this thread because it has had some useful discussion. Keep it on the level, avoid insulting comments and I won’t have to.

@anon35356645 I think the issue is you claim it has been poorly programmed yet make this claim with no programming background.

To shed some light, I have no programming experience and have dabbled with a couple different programs like HASS and this is by far the simplest and most well thought out program to date.

I am running HASSIO on a RPi 3 and have had no issues. I followed the instructions carefully as mentioned above by @lordsiris and had success first go apart from the refreshing.

I would advise on starting again from scratch, read some more posts on the forums and I can promise you will be quite amazed at what HASS and HADashboard can do so simply.

Also, the log files can shed some insight into where your errors are and a lot of the time i have found it is a very simple user error such as adding an extra space where it shouldn’t be or doubling up on a component that already exists.

Well wrong choice of wording, perhaps “poorly integrated in hassio”?
For sure something is not right (for unexperienced users at least) . It’s one of the few features in HA on which I have huge difficulties in making it work, even after spending many many hours reading the docs, the forum, and testing. When it finally works, every little changes, breaks it,

I think a lot of the difficulties comes from the HASSIO environment and ssl. In hassbian without https everything was more easy, for me. And that’s the other big problem, for me, of Hassio: manage nginx, caddy, still could not manage it.

maybe you should start to think about the fact that it also could be you.
with 248 topics opened (just questions) and over 4000 posted replies (almost all about trying to solve your problems) you have asked more then double then ANYONE ever did.

HASSIO is created for easy use, but for basic use.
you want advanced options that are not available in HASSIO.
but the advanced way wasnt your thing either, because at that point that you had that you also had several times problems just to install AD.

it breaks down because you use wrong settings. you changed from AD 3.0beta to AD 2 and back and back again all in one day, and in the meanwhile you dont notice it when you have written HASS instead of hass

maybe try to create a stable environment and just stop adding, changing, adding, changing and adding again!

and yeah, its not easy to create 4 different servers (HA, dashboard, NGINX, SSH) on 2 different systems with safety. that will never be easy. thats not because the programms are bad, but because there is no easy way to create such complicated environments.
if you are not able to get all that working, dont feel bad. millions of people cant do that. just accept the fact that its you and dont blame those who create beautifull programms that you can use and manipulate for FREE.
there is always the option to pay thousands of euro to someone that will create a working environment for you.

I have been using AppDaemon 3 since its release, with HaDashboard, with WU and custom skin on Hassio with out problems.

Hey @ursus69 just wondering how the WUnderground widget has been running for you? As mentioned earlier in this thread I’ve got it installed and running great however it doesn’t seem to update automatically.

It’s been running great as mentioned with the custom skin blur_light.
But I did have that problem before with the default skin.

I’m running my own custom skin also… reinstalled the widget and all relevant documentation but still no luck.

it is so disappointing to see the negative statements that were made when people work so hard to provide a WONDERFUL dashboard. I LOVE this thing! If you follow the documentation or watch the video tutorial, it comes right up and this is from someone that has no idea what he’s doing. I have added the WeatherUnderGround sensors to my dashboard and it is great. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR WORK ON THIS.

What I would love to do now is put some conditional formatting in. If the weather alerts > 0 then show in red and make it a hyperlink to display the actual alerts. I haven’t found a way to do this yet. Can you point me in the right direction to figure this out? Please let me know. THX

almost all kind of conditional formating can only be done by creating your own custom widgets.
you would have to copy the widget files to a dir custom_widgets inside your configuration dir, and then you can change the javascript to create conditional formating.

I’ve not found the video tutorial - can you post a link please? (Lots of stuff to sort thru - some new, most old!)

I’m pretty new to HADashboard but love the possibilities! I had been running something called MagicMirror2 but I think that since I’m so steeped in HA that I really need to change. Unfortunately with the pace of development of HADashboard, it’s been tricky figuring things out.
I’ve been able to follow the directions above to get WUnderground working. My next step will be to make it look the way I had it w/ MagicMirror. Here’s what I’m hoping to emulate.

* Please Note: this isn’t HADashboard yet, but it’s a goal!

Before I embark on this project, does anyone know if anyone else has done something similar already?

to create something like that is going to be very, very hard in dashboard.
there is absolutely no widget structure to see in that page.

if i wanted to recreate something like that i would create an app that writes a html page and then display it in dashboard with an iframe.

I like the videos that DrZzs puts together. I used this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDpz3OvaU4c

challenge accepted

EDIT:
Here’s my start… not bad for not knowing css or python, if I do say so myself.

ooh he’s funny. good info. thanks a lot!

no knowledge from python and css and you come up with that?
wow, i want to know what you come up with when you get to know it.
thats an awsome start!!!

Give a man 6 hours and a computer and he can do anything

no knowledge, and just 6 hours?
i think i found the person to help me with my problems when a month is gone by
