Hass.io ISO, rather than IMG file

I’d like to run Hass.io in a VM on my NAS, but I’m required to mount an ISO file to get started. Docker does run on the NAS already, but it isn’t easy to upgrade the container and it misses a lot of the nice features that deploying Hass.io has, so a VM seems like a good solution.

Is is possible to provide ISO images for people who’d like to run Hass on other hardware? I haven’t found an IMG > ISO too that works reliably.

http://www.imgtoiso.com/

IMG to ISO converters don’t appear to work, as there are several partitions in the IMG file.

Ah, that makes sense. Can you install it, then image the disk as an iso, then deploy the iso as a vm?

I’m trying that the moment, but it’s not a straightforward way for most people. I’ve now got it deployed on a RPi and I’ll transition it over at some point.

Install Ubuntu in your VM then use https://github.com/home-assistant/hassio-build/tree/master/install#install-hassio to install hassio.

I guess that may be the way to go for it - I was just hoping it was possible to have a ready-to-go image.

Thank you both for your help

thry this Hass.io running on docker/ubuntu on VM vs standalone hass running on docker on Ubuntu on VM
is the most minimal out of the box way that i know it works .
