Heads-up: Feature requests are moving!

This expectation is not the reality.

  • Many integrations still do not have codeowners and therefore you will not get a response from that integrations developer.

  • Requests for new integrations will fall into the same bucket, no codeowner. And you can’t expect someone to buy hardware just to make an integration, so you wait.

Those 2 bullet points alone account for most of the HA code base. The main development team (core team), will be using the large feature requests to steer the development roadmap. Much like how RBAC made it on the roadmap, I could see the most wanted FR (SSO) getting the same treatment. You won’t get notified in the FR there, that will show up on the roadmap.

As someone on the other side of the fence, this change has been an immense help and I’ve already closed out 6-10 template integration FRs and a few compensation integration ones too. Some that I never knew existed.

I now have an active working list of feature requests for any integration I manage or plan to manage in the future. The forums do not have this, nor is there any system for the forums that would link to a list of built in integrations in HA.

All other commentary on each feature request discussion now has vote options as well. If someone comes in with a similar idea, their post can gain traction inside the original feature request allowing the codeowner to pick and choose what they want to implement.

There’s less moderation too, because there’s a free open source github bot that we can manage (unlike the forums) that handles basic things.

Lastly, this isn’t just about users, this is also about contributors. All the volunteer developers have been asking for this for a long time.
