Help Please the wife is losing faith! ZHA/Zigbee router devices becoming Unknown

Hi David

Firstly I would like to thank you and the other team here for their help.

So it does look like the Tuya repeaters are the issue here which is a real shame as I really like the form factor. I plugged them into powerpoints around the house that have a USB port on them and also in some outside lights. So given we know these are an issue does that mean I should just throw them away? They seem to be widely (ZHA/Z2M etc) supported and others few other complaints I can see.

I have looked around for alternatives and cannot see anything like them. Does that mean that most Tuya devices are like this and I should avoid?

Any other words of wisdom?

Thanks again for your help.

I use Cree smartbulbs for routers… and light bulbs. They retail for approx. $12 each but Amazon regularly puts them on sale for $6. I’ve now got about 20 routers in this household  . I noticed every time I screwed in another Cree bulb, my Zigbee network got more reliable.

The ikea repeaters work well if you want a USB device and they’re relatively cheap too. Tube makes some good routers if you’re willing to add larger devices: Zigbee Routers | Tube's ZB Store

Tuya devices generally work. They all need special handling for the most part because all of their functions are implemented on a manufacture specific cluster. I try to avoid devices like this myself.

Thanks for the recommendations.

With the Tuya devices be ‘managed’ Is that something the integration like Z2M and ZHA does or is that something I would do (if I know how)?

Hey David. Are Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 devices OK? I want to replace some Tuya in wall relays.

I have a few of the in wall relays on my network and no issues that I have noticed

Thanks. Will order.

Sorry one final question. It mentions that the Sonoff relays cannot work with a momentary rocker - see pic below. All mine are are Aqara remotes - the ones with the battery and are momentary rockers. Given you have some and provided it’s wired correctly should they work? I imagine the situation they are talking about is using a hub vs. HA.

Hi again. I have taken your advice and replaced all my Tuya relays with Sonoff ZBMini’s. This helped a little but then I found out that all of my Gledopto lights are NOT Zigbee mesh devices and I have replaced all of them with new Gledopto Pro lights. These are mesh and Zigbee 3.0.

I am still having stuff becoming unavailable. Largely this is the ZB Mini’s and Aqara switches both the wireless ones and the wired switches. Also some Aqara door sensors. These devices were always so reliable before the change.

I am seeing some errors like this in the logs:

Logger: bellows.zigbee.application
Source: /usr/local/lib/python3.8/site-packages/bellows/zigbee/application.py:533

Where devices are dropping off they are still controllable if part of a ZHA group.

I know you will ask what has changed. Well basically all the lights and the ZBMini’s have been swapped over a week ago so it’s had a chance to settle down. I can reconnect devices and I use ‘reconfigure device’ option in HA. While this appears to work a day or two later we are back to square one. Some of the Aqara switches are lethargic and take their time to react to being turned on.

I am happy to get you further logs just tell me which ones please.

Thanks in advance for your help.

UPDATE: I have gone around the devices that are unknown, removed them and added again via ZHA. These so far are up and working but do seem to become unresponsive after a while. In order to get them to work you need to turn off/on a few times. This includes some of the aqara switches both powered and battery powered.

Further update. The main switches that are failing at present are powered Aqara ones. I cannot switch on/off in HA. They will update their state if you manually push them. They are showing connected. The last seen times seem to right up to the minute I check. Just totally unresponsive via HA.

Hoping for some further thoughts?

hekki @bdb1 Have you disqualified wifi interference? The below link explains whats the case but its a bit technical

Yes. I removed the Tuya products from my network and all is well. Thanks for the suggestion though/ Still have a few things drop off from time to time but these are non Zigbee 3.0. Bring on Matter I think.

Dont want to disappoint you but this guy has a point:

I really don’t like that guy but he’s spot on with matter IMO.

how do you view a mesh map?
