Home Assistant Community Add-on: Spotify Connect

I have spotify premium family
I have install spotufy connect but i see this error
What is this ? Can i solve ?

Looks like youā€™re hitting this. According to the issue, itā€™s only a warning, nothing to be worried about.

I am in the same position ARNik - any advice would be appreciated. Virtualbox running on windows 10 with HA on Ubuntu 64 bit

Getting the same error since about 2 weeksā€¦ couldnā€™t parse packet from V4(192.168.178.xxx:5353): type 47 is invalid etc. Both for spotify connect and the libraspot version.

I get this error as well, however all works as it should, so I donā€™t care about this error foe the moment.

Hi!

First of all thank you for this addon, it works great! i am trying to see the status of the player to turn on the speakers with a wifi socket but if I take a look at the media_player.spotify it is empty. What am I missing? It is not possible to see the status of the addon? Like playing or stoppedā€¦

Thank you in advance.

I donā€™t use the Spotify integration, I think itā€™s clumsy and doesnā€™t really fit a home automation setup, so canā€™t really help debug this issue.
However, it would make sense for the Spotify Connect add-on to expose its internal status to HA. I will take a look at that, but canā€™t really promise anything.

It makes no sense at all, as the add-on is just a Spotify Connect target. Instead, use the Spotify integration which provides that.

Recap, Spotify Connect Add-on = a spotify playing target, and does and should not provide entities.

Well, it also makes no sense for my home automation to update the spotify status when Iā€™m not at home and Iā€™m simply listening to music on my mobile phone. Sure, I could add a bunch of rules to avoid that, but again, I maybe just donā€™t want my current listening music to show up on a dashboard.

Also, looking at my Nest Mini, they are just spotify targets most of the time, but they report back their status, and can be controlled without having to go through Spotify.

True that our Spotify Connect add-ons are just a playing target, but I see a few advantages of it reporting its own status:

  • no fiddling with spotify apps, which can block the less technical users
  • no dependencies on other integrations in order to provide a basic feature like exposing the current status

Hi, in my case (and maybe others too), the spotify connect addon is just what I need, you can play music from any spotify account in the network, itā€™s very cool, and you donā€™t need to add any account or login anywhere else.

Thank you again.

Can this allow me to play Spotify via Hassio to multiple devices as the same time? ie all my Echo devices + The PC where my Hassio resides?

I agree with @giannello. For the second advantage he named I have a direct example that shows how worse it is to be dependend on other integrations (in my case the Spotify integration) to get the current status of Spotify:

The Spotify integration itself is great but it has a major disadvantage: It updates only once every 30 seconds.

My Pi (where Iā€™m running Home Assistant) is connected to my audio receiver via Cinch. Iā€™m turning on the receiver when the Spotify integration updated itself and says that Iā€™m playing music on Home Assistant.

With the 30 seconds update interval of the integration I run in the issue that in the worst case my receiver needs 30 seconds until he turns on (via IR). Thatā€™s why in this case a status from the Spotify Connect Add-on would help to turn on the receiver without a delay.

This doesnā€™t depend on Hassio or the Spotify addon, itā€™s a feature that must be implemented by Spotify. They have an open feature request

Hey, Iā€™ve hacked something over the afternoon. Uninstall/reinstall the add-on (keep a copy of the configuration, as it will be wiped!), add create_entity: True to the configuration, and restart the add-on

@giannello do you mean:

  1. Uninstall add-on
  2. Install add-on
  3. Write create_entity: True in the configuration (see picture below)
  4. Start add-on

And thatā€™s it? Doesnt work for me unfortunately :frowning: Or have I made a mistake? Whatā€™s the name of your entity?

okay got it. I just installed your version of the addon and now it works  Including this functionality in the official version would be great but for now this is exactly what Iā€™m looking for. Thanks a lot!

Please keep me posted, and feel free to create a github issue if something doesnā€™t work as expected.

Giannello thanks a lot! It works flawlessly! What a great community!

i have just installed this addon and have aux cable connected to my pi and a speaker but the audio is terrible, any ideas?

The audio jack of the PI is known to have a terrible quality. Nothing related to the add-on or homeassistant. Use a USB DAC or a dedicated hat.
