Now that I see your new addition I’m thinking we need something for using the context of a trigger too. Many people want to know which user did something, or whether a physical switch was flipped.

It is kind of documented, and perhaps here we can argue too that the docs should just be improved.

Work with "Triggered by" in automations

Based on my own testing, this is combination of values that characterize each action: Action id parent_id user_id Physical Not Null Null Null Automation Not Null Not Null Null UI Not Null Null Not Null A more comprehensive list of actions can be found here. If you are saying that your testing shows that Physical and UI produce identical combinations then, unfortunately for you, there’s no available means of distinguishing between the two.

Is there documentation on what context, id, parent_id and user_id mean in an automation?

I’m experimenting with an automation where I need to do conditions based on what actually triggers a state change, so it looks like context (id, parent_id and user_id) is the most useful for sorting that out. However, I couldn’t find detailed documentation on what those mean.
