From your integration documentation I found the nest integration and there’s a note that all thermostats are supported with the API through device management but a blue note that temperature sensors are not. I’m unsure if that means that the integration does not support reading temperatures on the thermostat inside. But I think after reading through the link above it does appear that I could do what I want to do.
I’m only novice as a coder but also am not afraid to play until I get something to work. I was able to use IFTT and tasker to turn off all lights when I place my phone on a Qi charger so I figured sooner or later I’ll figure it out.
While anyone is at it, is there a way to to access real time forecast data within two hours of my locale and trigger different actions based on it? I presume so, but I want to be sure before buying.
