Home Assistant + ZBT-1 + OpenThreadBorder + Eve Energy: how to configure?

Hey there,

I have an OrangePi5 with HA in supervised mode. The OP5 does not have built in BT or Wifi, just an ethernet connection.

I purchased the ZBT-1 usb dongle and installed the OpenThreadBorder addon.
Took some tries to get the service to start, but now the service starts, and logs indicate the dongle is found and everything is working.

Now: I have an Eve Energy plug, which supposedly supports Thread and Matter.

I want to use the ZBT equipped HA instance to create a Thread network and connect the Eve to it.

I’ve added a thread network which shows up in HA. But I’m unsure as to how to add the Eve plug to this network.

Things I have tried:

The HA OpenThreadBorder add-on shows the network the Eve plug creates by default (My-Home1234).

When I add the HA thread router to that network via the HA OTB add-on UI, the Eve app can’t see the plug anymore. I then need to reset it to default settings.

Questions:

  • Can HA + the ZBT-1 dongle actually act as a Matter over Thread server or is the software support not there yet?
  • How can I make the eve plug ‘see’ the Thread network my HA makes? (btw they’re 1 meter apart)

Here is how I did it (didn’t use Eve Energy App)
