Agreed. Maybe a seat sensor like is in your car for the living room couch.

Yeah, I’ve seen those. Problem with them is they pick up dogs and cats. You gotta orient them perfectly to ignore the animals.
Interesting sensor, anyone with direct experience? Xiaomi sensors tooks 2 minutes to update in HA. Instead Mi Home app motion detection is very fast and update the sensor instantly.
This is a fantastic tip. It’s quite old your post but exactly what I need today. I was looking for a similar solution as the poster of thi thread.
During the night I want to have motion enabled to switch on/off automatically when I arrive late at home. But I don’t want the lights to switch off automatically all the time when I am in the living room but out of sight of the motion sensor.
