How to setup a Weather Station like the Ecowitt GW1101 (Outdoor) for the "Weather Forecast Card"?

Actually, you’re very close to being able to do this since you’re already uploading to the Weather Underground. You just have to sign up for CWOP to get your station identifier. (see link below). That’s how to make your personal weather station Official. After you do that, your data will be available to everyone using the NWS; including respective forecast data. Just add the NWS integration with your new Station ID.

Here’s the Llnk.
If you are already sending data to internet sites (like Weather Underground), then all you will need to do is sign up with CWOP, receive a unique station identifier, and make a few minor configuration changes within your weather station’s software to tell it to send your data to the CWOP (see the instructions manual)

PS: I read that some Ecowitt owners use Cumulus MX to upload the data. What software do you use to upload to the Weather Underground?

I don’t; my station does it itself (it was actually the main reason I got it long before I had HA). Pretty sure it would require me setting up a computer to send the data for NWS (from what little I read). Regardless, I don’t have a need or interest, but thanks for the info!

Thanks for confirming the upload to Weather Underground is builtin. I’ll ask their help email if "a few minor configuration changes can be done in the Ecowitt’s interface or it would require Cumulus MX. Like you, if I have to install extra software, I don’t think I would be motivated much either.

Hi there @brooksben11 I wanted to reach out as you are literally the only person I’ve found speaking about this and wanted to clarify. IF I connect an Ecowitt Witty (for example) to W/underground (WU) and send it my data, IT (WU) will then allow me to use my station to retrieve a forecast ? In other words it won’t just give me something close by, it will actually generate a forecast from my station only and allow me to bring that back into HA ?

Therefore I can use my station directly (through Ecowitt integration) to pull live weather and then use the PWS integration to pull forecast (ultimately generated from my station data), is that right ?

Also, in terms of lat / Lon for the station, thats something you enter yourself when setting up the account ? Don’t think the Witty has built in GPS etc

Thanks so much for any additional information on this, like I said, I did search but found no one else specifically talking about custom forecast from their station through WU.

Here’s the HA custom integration I use to pull in weather data from Wunderground:

I setup my station a very long time ago, but I assume Wunderground still gives you a free API key if you have a station uploading to them (you could check their website to see if they advertise this, but my memory was that it’s not really proactively advertised by them). The README for the integration walks you through everything for setting it up.

The location for your station gets entered when you set it up with Wunderground and yes, when you use the above integration you’re pulling the forecast specific to the station you specify.
