I see now. The examples seemed to center around things like thermostat temperatures, people coming home - external events. That’s where my confusion comes from. I’ve made the mistake of thinking automations (both traditional and from AD) existed solely to monitor the outside world and cause HA to take action based on observed conditions. And that scripts were for groups of internal HA commands.
I apologize for not reading enough or jumping to the incorrect conclusion. To me, even though I’m an experienced Python programmer, I find this a very large and complex subsystem. It’s the Home Assistant portions that I’m having trouble with.
