Ignore ESPHome discovered devices

SSH into your home assistant instance. run the following commands (make sure to replace with your esp home device to be ‘deleted’

cd /config
find esp* | grep

that’ll return a bunch of files like the below:

[core-ssh config]$ find esp* | grep esphome-web-7b1488 esphome/.esphome/build/esphome-web-7b1488 esphome/.esphome/build/esphome-web-7b1488/post_build.py esphome/.esphome/build/esphome-web-7b1488/platformio.ini esphome/.esphome/build/esphome-web-7b1488/src esphome/.esphome/build/esphome-web-7b1488/src/esphome

You can delete these with rm and rm -rf for folders. Careful, don’t delete any other folders / files

I’ve tried everything suggested in this thread. My "discovered? device just won’t go away.

I have deleted every file and container containing “athom-sw01-0f39c2” and restarted Home Assistant, but the discovered device just keeps coming back.

Any ideas would be appreciated. (Not using MQTT).

Did you try adopting it then deleting it?

Same issue here - we need the 3 dots so we can delete discovered devices.

I got rid of my discovered athom-smart-plug-v2 by doing:

docker exec -it addon_a0d7b954_esphome bash
ls -l /data
rm -r /data/athom-smart-plug-v2

and restarting ESPHome addon

I adopted/deleted mine, then restarted HA and they returned. Then I restarted ESPHome addon (under Addons) and they went away.

That’s interesting. Restarting Home Assistant which, obviously, also restarts ESPHome doesn’t have the same effect with restart ESPHome addon exclusively.

Restarting home assistant does not restart addons like ESPHome. They keep running in their containers while the home assistant container restarts. Thus restarting home assistant only restarts the ESPHome integration, not the addon.

I see. That’s actually very insightful. In my head restarting HA was, think about it aloud, same as rebooting.
Now it makes so much more sense. Much appreciated!

Also ran into this. Tried various things including adopting the ESP plenty of times, refreshing browser etc. - only restarting the ESPHome addon “solves” this already adopted ESPs still showing up as “DISCOVERED” (green) from esphome.web.

Can’t this be fixed in the ESPHome addon?

Once I learned this just needed an addon restart, it went from “annoying thing” to “very minor inconvenience”. The addon restarts in only a few seconds.
While it would be nice if there was an easier way to clear these, I imagine many things would be higher priority.

But it still creates a lot of confusion. I’m totally new in the ESP business and was thinking for hours for my first two onboarded ESPs “setup is obviously not finished yet, even I adopted the ESP a bunch of times”.

Update: wanted to create but found an existing issue for this - one of currently 637 open, so YES there might be other much more important issues :smiley:
