Intel NUC7CJYH still viable?

That would be me. My NAS metal box is with J4125 & 8GM ram, running (obviously) storage services and Plex and HAOS in VM and 2 camera footage feeding into the NAS storage (but w/o object detection stuff). And a second VM running Ubuntu desktop environment as a family web browser.
(And AdGuard, and DB, and MQTT server, …)

CPU is like 4-7% when you are not using Firefox for web surfing.

If I were you I would go with Proxmox.

Thank for the reply. I do have a couple quick questions for you:

Do you run Plex in its own VM or are you running the Plex addon inside HAos?

Do you run TrueNAS or another NAS software?

How much internal drive space does the NAS, Plex HAos and everything else take up?

My NUC7CJYH comes with a 120 SSD but I am wondering if that is enough or should I order a larger one?

I will definitely be going the Proxmox route but it looks like there are two ways to install it, one via KVM/Proxmox and the other Using This Guide

So which is the best way to go?

The community guide is the way to go, very easy.

Bit of a difficult question, as few if any will have done both methods and can provide a useful comparison. So I’ll just say I used the community guide and it worked great for me, and the 1,000+ post thread is filled with positive comments.

Got to say… that guide is freak’n awesome! I think I might be in need of another 4gb DDR4 rail though:
