Is a fresh install recommended, which is the most hassle-free install on pi zero (not wireless). The debugging on this install has taken much time, but also learning a lot during the debugging, if only I could get the history, logbook and recorder going.
I’ve done the manual installation on a NUC with debian so If you really want to stick with that it’s doable as long as you follow the right steps. but…
if it were me and just starting out on a RPi (which I did) i would just download and flash the hassbian image onto an SD card (which I did) and you’re off and running.
