Hello
I have four IR remotes to control standalone LED light bulbs. I want to know if there is a way to integrate the IF remotes into Home Assistant. I’ve quickly looked and there seems to be a Moes Zigbee IR blaster available from AliExpress, however I believe I would need one for each light bulb. Instead I’m looking for one device that can mimic all 4 remotes and allow me to control the light bulbs from Home Assistant. BTW the light bulbs are rechargeable via USB. I’ve included a picture of the remote.
Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.
IR is line-of-sight… if there isn’t a single location where you can put the transmitter that has line-of-sight to all 4 bulbs, you will have to buy multiple transmitters. Normally this is going to mean at least one IR blaster for each room where there is a bulb.
Unless you just really love those bulbs, you will likely be better off just replacing them with smarter bulbs. Devices based on older technologies like IR and RF rarely send any data back to HA, so state knowledge is, at best, a guess. This can lead to unreliable automations and poor acceptance among other members of the household.
My understanding is that the Moes blaster currently only works with Z2MQTT, if you are using ZHA you should hold off on purchasing it.
Didgeridew - Thanks for the feedback. The battery powered bulbs are intentionally used because there isn’t any power going to the lamp, therefore the bulbs have a built in battery and are controlled via the remote. With four bulbs / lamps I was looking for a way to control them from a single platform.
I use several RM4c mini “universal remotes” from Broadlink (now Bestcon?) which can be controlled entirely locally by HA over WiFi. They can be found on Aliexpress for under $10.
