My home automation is heavily based on TP-Link Kasa devices, I have 22 of those in total.
Since the 2021 firmware screw-up from TP-Link were they removed HA access to the devices, I haven’t updated any of my devices’ firmware. However, I am wondering if it is safe to do so.
I have HS220 switches, V1 and V2, HS210 switches and HS103 smart plugs. Is the latest firmware version HA safe?
I use the same switches and plugs and are all up to date and I have had zero issues. I never understood why people hate updating, almost all devices I have ever used, updates made them better or safer. Anyways sorry about the little rant, but good luck.
It was only on HS100 and HS110, which are the UK versions of the smart plug, but it got me scared, so I never updated my firmware since 2020.
TP-Link offered a half-backed solution with beta firmware, but I never figured out if they ever fully reverted the changes to the main branch of the firmware.
I see that this is your first time posting. Welcome!!!
If you are not new to the home automation game, you are a super lucky person, as most home automation manufacturers are a bunch of a******* that don’t give a s****** about their users, so they break features willy-nilly.
Sorry for my bleak comment. But that is my experience so far. I have been trying to move most of my stuff to ESPHome to avoid being lockdown to a vendor or online webserver that can disappear in the blink o an eye, like Insteon Hey Insteon users! - Home Assistant
HS220 has new firmware 1.0.10
Wondering if anyone has updated the firmware.
I have 36 of these switches and would hate to cripple my HA setup. Sadly I don’t honk I can just update a pilot device to make sure it’ll work- looks like it’s all or nothing…
Just updated my HS220.V2s to 1.0.11 Build 230908. Local access seems to still be working. My test was “Does it toggle instantly from the dashboard”, and I would say “yes it does”. Does anyone know an easy way to test local polling? A curl command to ping them or something?
I know this thread is old, but I am just getting started with Kasa on my HA. I tried the Kasa integration and it is not working. I updated the firmware on all of my devices during installation. I have a variety of brand new switches and dimmers. NONE can be discovered by the HA even if I enter a known IP. I have tried both the Kasa and the Tapo versions, neither will add a single device. All had their firmware upgraded. Has anyone had success with new devices? As in October 2024.
I have several TP-Link device switches and plugs that have been running for some time. A couple of weeks ago, I added 3 KL125 bulbs for outside use with no problems.
