I know, but you, or most people( complaining/request to revert) haven’t specified which HA-Logo you want to change/revert.
As i see it there are the about 3/4 1. the ones in the Browser-Tab(url) ( it’s also here in the forum-tab( And header) btw, surely not the same place to revert)
2. in Settigs/devices/Integration(supervisor)
3. In the About-Section
4. logon-screen
ONLY the first one is what people see most often, every time they are here in the forum, or open their HA-Instance ( some “blueish” flashing by, if one credentials are saved on the device )
Yes i know where the logo are in github, also know/have seen that custom componenet, and are aware of APP’s for Android, if one likes to change App-logos/icons
PS: it’s either an .ico or .svg , An icon/image ( usually found in an/the “icons or image-folder” in the underlying website/webapp’s file-structor . so same approach can be used to locate these ( find .ico "or " svg or png ) …
btw, did you try to “find” and copy/paste the path/icon/image in your result, one by one ( into your browser ) ?
PS2: somehow i doubt that a favicon.png i.e 1024x1024 or 512x512 is aimed for “browser-tabs” , thou ofcause i also don’t know if it’s the “actual images” or various “references” in the code people would like to fiddle with, and i haven’t tried to “replace” neither.
Yeah i just spend some time in github, it’s a very complex “structure” , so one have also to go through the “local” file-structure, to figure out where and which changes that will survive i.e a browser-refresh, reboot, or restart.
Partly there are the various svg codes ( some/most merged )which varies in the different “places/sites” that are “casted/rendered” to our browser, but also an “index.html.template” ( not sure whether it’s the “landing/launch” page with the favicon.ico in the browser-url, and an svg code (big example of the Logo) in the body
The one Taras linked to " export const mdiHomeAssistant " seems more like a “header” svg, this would look very odd in i.e the About section, or a login/load-screen
The one in “integration-page” (Supervisor) was “easy” to discover, harder to replace, for the Picky ones
Is there a way to revert back to a previous version of HA that is still using the old Logo and then just updating the integrations?
Or are there any plans to make the Logo a setting Admins can configure?
I think you got my point about the design choices made by devs!?
While IP routes cannot be persistantly added or removed from the routing table they force a new Logo on all of us and make a big Halleluja out of it in the Release Notes.
A Routing table, is as it “sounds” in many cases just an “editable” file ( or alterable Database ), and this is persistent, however, i sincerely, doubt you understand that, all your IP devices does need 1 either provided by your Router, or done by your self on your i.e Linux Device. You can also setup “rules” in i.e your routers firewall, i.e from>to=block, or setup an i.e … well never mind
The “website” Url, is part of the generated HTML-Page you see “on your screen” , generated by the Open-Source-Code, which you have installed on your device
I guess that was about the Answer, which is pointed out here to your Topic
In short, YES , there are several ways, one is to stay out of this website, so you get less exposed to the new HA Logo, as it’s in the Header, and Browser Tab, If you open your HA-Instance in a browser, make sure you use i.e Fullscreen, then don’t go to the “About-Section” , left is The integration-section, where you see all Brands-icons you are using/have installed your self, set your devices/browsers to remember login-credential (will only be a flashing “blue” thing for a split second, and you are good to go … Ohh and don’t buy any devices in the future, with a “note” on it saying "Supported by HomeAssistant, You will have to carry this all the way home, knowing it has the HA Brand-Logo on the packages , even when you pick it out of your bag, and place it on your table,… boom
Sorry sometimes have problems being short in my commends
A program is free software if the program’s users have the four essential freedoms: [1]
The freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose (freedom 0).
The freedom to study how the program works, and change it so it does your computing as you wish (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help others (freedom 2).
The freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions to others (freedom 3). By doing this you can give the whole community a chance to benefit from your changes. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
Feel free (as in freedom not free beer ) to modify HA to your needs and share it again so every one who has the same need like you can benefit
@orange-assistant
If someone gives me a free beer that person has expectations towards me (or wants to appologize). So its pretty much the same as free Software.
And yes they forced the new logo on all HA installations.
The fanboys here seem to be quite happy if people look for alternatives to HA instead of addressing the concerns about developments decision making.
I think you are fully aware that most (including myself) do not have the capability to run and maintain a fork of HA.
But that brings me back to the mantra I hear from any experienced IT person in regards to HA:
“Dont use if for anything that matters to you; your comfort, your security or your money.”
Their words, not mine.
Actually quite a pitty. I was of the believe the aspirations would be higher, but the reaction to the valid Question if we can get the old Logo back has proofen that people are quite content, with the decision making to prioritize a new logo over fundamental fixes.
I fail to understand why.
I can’t follow you at all, maybe catch some minutes and read a little about free software?
Also the previous posted link
explains the already in the second sentence:
“Free software” means software that respects users’ freedom and community. Roughly, it means that the users have the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software . Thus, “free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech,” not as in “free beer.” We sometimes call it “libre software,” borrowing the French or Spanish word for “free” as in freedom, to show we do not mean the software is gratis.
And you are not forced to do it yourself at all. If it is important enough for you should be able to find a capable person/company doing this service for (probably for money in exchange).
Or the contrary? People here a mostly not fundamentalists but accept (and like?) the fast pace of development with a new release every month including new features and fixes.
Also (kind of repeating myself) this is a open source project - if you THINK a fundamental fix is missing fell free to create a pull request so it can be included in a future release (if it get’s accept obviously).
Just the last month 153 users contributed over 1000 commits to HA core (only). None of them did think to go in reverse and invest (or waste) time just to turn the wheel backwards
Not only you - I guess most of people fail to understand (you) here
Without knowing your age: As older a human get’s more troublesome is it often for them to adapt to “new” or only changing things - even if it’s only a icon. Might be an app update on the phone and (grand)pa doesn’t find the app anymore because they face-lifted the app icon
but you need to upload these png files to your media.
Note that when displaying transparent images we need to apply a chain of filters which gives a slightly different color.
but I dont use the logo for an Entitiy…
And I havent found yet an easy way from the HAs config to change the logo of the companion app back from that downlevel look or the Icon in the browser taps. That would be the most prominent places for me.
But lets see what magdalena provides in terms of Market Research why the logo had to change. And if there is no such research, well everybody can make up his mind if he/she wants to use software, where Devs are so dishonest with their userbase.
Probably the fanboys will dive on this one as well, defending this dodgy decision making and communication as the benefits of free software.
Thanks for investing your time anyway, and trying to find a productive solution!
I think I for my part have given up on finding a way to get the old logo back, and on the HA Community for that matter.
Well, it was rather easy. Also, replacing a logo for the Companion App is a much simpler task (check for tools to replace icons for iOS & Android apps).
I myself do not have the HA icon in my setup, so losing it is not an issue for me.
As for the “research etc” - I am afraid that it was a bit exaggerated, but these are not my money, not gonna bother.
Thank you Ildar,
Is there also a way to make it the default logo again using themes? Or is there no way of checking if the logo to be replaced is the HA logo?
In a theme, for each card / row / other element you need to check an associated entity_id: if if it needs a HA icon - then replace.
Imho it does not worth it.
Also, there is a way to load a custom icon (never tried) - may be this is a better way then.
