Jura Z10 - Exploration

Interesting posts guys, Ryan, thanks for starting. Jura’s mentality for user convenience and lack of updates is quite poor. Especially considering they have machines with auto on/off. I’ve taken apart another jura but not the z10 yet. A couple of questions.

  1. are both of those switches on the top panel? I know the top button controls a switch, but what button controls the black micro switch?

Ed, great idea on using the 1 shelly, i wondered the same thing.

  1. Is the shelly even needed? Current wiring configuration is once plugged in, the unit will automatically be on correct? if that is the case, could we delete the shelly, keeping the switches wired as if the shelly was there creating a instant power on when plugged in, then we use a wifi plug for scheduling? If yes, could be we sneaky with the wiring to minimize detection from Jura if we sent it in for service? id have to see a sketch but could we just put in two jumpers at the PCB? It’s hard to tell from the pics.

I know really nothing about electrical other than the very basic of basics so feel free to throw rocks at me. Great thread.

Having owned this machine for a while now, my take on all this is that the heat up time is so short that it’s really not worth the effort to automate the on/off. You press the button and by the time you’ve got your cup in place and the milk connected the machine is ready.

The top button actuates both of the microswitches.

Sometimes you do things because you can, not because it’s necessarily needed.

Oh I’m super down for that way of looking at it, but what I felt would be required to make it worthwhile automating this would be a) auto refilling of water (the OP pulled this off pretty easily), b) auto-diversion of the automatic rinsing cycling water (someone did a similar rig on another brand of coffee machine), c) ability to fire off a drink from the menu (currently the Z10 bluetooth protocol is yet to be reverse-engineered) d) the dedicated milk chiller.

With all that, you could achieve the dream of leaving a glass under the machine at night and come downstairs in the morning to a prepared flat white, etc.

For me personally without all those elements there’s enough manual work required that taking the machine apart just to be able to turn it on and save the 30 second heat up time isn’t worth it. YMMV!

Hi, just got the Jura Z10 and noticed they changed the software, so the water tank LED is not always on anymore. I would like it to be permanent on, like it is on the Z8 and Z6.

Do one of you guys know where I can tap the 5 watt on the powerboard, so light will go on when the Machine is on?

Thanks a lot
