I just went through the steps and was able to get it connected - are you still encountering issues?
Man I hate to be the bad news person, but I bought 7 of these ~120 days ago and 4 out of the 7 started routinely causing false alarms.
Upon further looking it seems to be a fairly common issue. ![]()
I purchased a single one to see how well they functioned, and the experience was so mixed that I would not buy any more. The iOS Kidde app is flaky and often completely broken, and Kidde offer no support ā they do not respond to the support email associated with the product. I would not recommend them at all, which is a real shame as there are very few alternatives in this domain.
I was looking at them today, they require ring. So itās an instant no go for me (costs 200/year for ring cloud). I ended up getting non smart first alert ones instead. Was reading way too many reviews about kiddie and false alarms.
I just purchased the Kidde app version from Amazon. While I do have a ring plan I will be getting rid of them soon.
As an update I was able to see my 30CUAR-W using the integration. Battery state shows low and no battery voltage. But there is a weeks to replace number that is north of 3,500 weeks.
Now to figure out a day when no one is home to test the alarm and see if the integration is pulling accurate data.
Please keep us updated as Iām looking into this model. Kidde doesnāt inspire confidence but there is nothing in this space to speak of.
I have the exact same issue with my 30CUAR-W in my bedroom. Low and zero voltage reported by HA. One other thing I wish it did was enable Test from Home Assistant. I can do that from the Kidde App, but not HA. It would be nice as my units are quite high to reach due to vaulted ceilings and I need a ladder to test them. Otherwise it seems to work OK for me. I keep watching to see if there is an update to the HACS integration. The nice thing is that the wired interconnection between alarms works with the Kidde Ring version (I have one of them near my furnace) and three old non smart First alert smoke detectors. They all work when I test either the Ring Kidde or 30CUAR-W smart units or the dumb first alerts. The smart units donāt know which trigger the alarm, but thatās OK for now. Eventually Iāll have the dumb ones all replaced with the 30CUAR-W especially if we can get the integration working better in HA.
Hi all. Just purchased a 30CUAR-WCA. I donāt see hush or test controls in the current integration. I only see identify. Am I missing something? I would love to have that functionality on my HA dashboard!
any updates on the quality of the kidde integraiton? my one nest protect is expired and looking at the current lack of options in this space. Also considering the new first alert nest protect replacement.
I used First Alert Z-Wave Smoke & CO Detector in the past. Worked great. I am in an all electric house now. Passed them off to the kid.
Whatās the difference between the integration here (tache) and the one Iāve been using that is listed in HACS (snell-evan-itt)? I havenāt had any issues with the HACS one, just curious.
same question here. subbing for updates
another āme tooā post. i also have purchased Kidde model 30CUAR-W. i too am migrating from expiring nest protects and looking for a home-asstant friendly model.
iām using āKidde-Homesafeā HACS integration from snell-even-itt and it is working, though has some rough edges, including for example, it doesnāt display battery level correctly.
I got one of these last year. Uses the free Ring app. From what I can tell, it will alert through the app when it detects without needing a subscription. The paid plan adds Ring support calling you/alternate contact to let you know itās alerting. (And 60 day alert history⦠Which ultimately weād want from HA)
The only downside is that the HA Ring integration doesnāt recognize these yet. So doesnāt work with HA ![]()
Ring Kidde smart smoke/CO detector not detected Ā· Issue #152916 Ā· home-assistant/core
be careful because i think there might be one model that works with ring app (RGCUAR-RW) and another model that works with the kidde app (30CUAR-W). i have the latter.
it may turn out to be identical - or not. it may turn out that both of these can work with the Kidde-Homesafe integration - or not. i just didnāt want people to get screwed by buying the wrong thing without realizing.
you can see these depicted as separate (though phyiscally identical-looking) products on this page: Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms | Kidde.
Iām pretty sure they are incompatible. We have the RGCUAR-RW Ring version. Thereās no mention anywhere that itāll work with the Kidde app.
It works fine with Ring. Without subscription for just local (in-app) alerts.
Now we just need to get the HA Ring integration to recognize smoke/CO detectors. That way we can turn on automations on it to get better notifications (since phones will do their darndest to turn off app notifications if you donāt look at the app every day. And I couldnāt care less about the Ring app)
ok so to clarify what is known:
- RGCUAR-RW and 30CUAR-W are not the same thing.
- 30CUAR-W works with Kidde app
- 30CUAR-W (mostly) works with Kidde-Homesafe HACS integration.
- RGCUAR-RW works with Ring app
⦠so seems like a key question is: does RGCUAR-RW work with the Kidde-Homesafe integration?
anyone with a 30CUAR-W want to give this a shot? seems like this has the api necessary for the newer devices.
