Has anyone seen a small close-up light sensor that you can use to check if an LED on a device is on or not? For example to check if my washer/dryer is on or not?

What is the problem that you are trying to solve ???
To detect when my washer and dryer is on or not. I was looking at using a smart plug to detect power load but the dryer uses a 30amp plug so that doesn’t seem doable and I don’t need to be able to control them so it seems overkill.
You can use a photoresistor, similar to what’s done in projects like these. Search the forum for photoresistor for lots more examples.

Ah interesting… although before I look into make something custom I was hoping there was an existing Z-wave / Zigbee solution
