Live stream for Nest camera via Starling + HomeKit

Hi all, I have some Nest cameras and I added them to HA via Starling Hub and HomeKit controller. I can see all the sensors and cameras in HA, but I can only see a static snapshot from the camera in the default dashboard and I couldn’t not see the live stream. Does anyone know if it is expected? Thanks in advance!

Hey - did you manage to find a solution here? Having the same issue and when reaching out to Starling they told me that Starling doesn’t officially support adding devices to homeassistant via homekit. They only officially support exposing to apple home. I don’t know of any way to add devices to apple home using homekit FIRST and then pull those into homeassistant - generally everyone talks about going the other direction which is how i initially set it up.

I saw an update today that Starling has enabled local video streaming over HomeKit and thought this would solve things for Home Assistant as well, but it looks like there is still quite a delay when you use Home Assistant. It is not quite a snapshot, I don’t think, it is just extremely low frame rate and high latency…

I’ll try reaching out to Starling as well; I know they don’t officially support it, but it would be great if there was some solution, as it is such a good way to integrate Nest stuff into Home Assistant aside from the video streaming. It would be nice to be able to recommend it to anyone else with Nest and Home Assistant setups.

I got a response from Starling! The gist is that it should work just like any other HomeKit camera, which is to say, anything that works for cameras over HomeKit should work for Nest Cams through Starling Home Hub. However, they actually recommend someone creating an official integration using their API, as it could be better-integrated—and they would contribute some resources towards helping out (just not committing to fully leading the effort).

Full response from them here:
