With your suggested solution ESPHome only knows the voltage and current. That only let’s you calculate the apparent power and their is nothing else so “synch” as the power factor is unkown

Current meters are current meters and current meters are not power meters.

many people think that a current transformer (ct) will tell them the real power usage in an AC system (with PF not 1) but that’s just not the case (and something I write here like every 3 months )

In the end it proved not to be very accurate

You probably build a (maybe) somewhat accurate current meter.

But what you actually wanted was a accurate power meter (your energy is billed on that).

We learned: A current meter can not substitute a power meter (in AC scenarios when PF ≠ 1)
