It would be nice to have some information on what content can be played on mediaplayers, and how to set this up.

Currently I’m using Chromecast and Plex. However, it seems for example Kodi offers a lot more options to play content. Switching to a specific media players might depend on what content can be played on it from HASS.

What is CAN do:

  • Chromecast - Play a webradio stream
  • Chromecast - Play Google TTS

What I CANNOT seem to do:

  • Play a video from the Plex Library on Chromecast
  • Play a Youtube video on Chromecast
  • Make Plex play specific content from it`s own database

Is this possible? And could anyone show me an example of how to set this up? If not, are there other mediaplayers that DO support this?

I`m also curious to hear what kind of content (source + filetype) people have managed to send to Plex and Chromecast.

I think you are looking for this custom component for Plex (it will likely be in the next release).

This should be able to do many of the things you are attempting, with the exception of YouTube.
