Migrated all my Z-Wave devices from SmartThings to Home Assistant!

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a small victory from this weekend. After months of planning and tinkering, I’ve successfully migrated all my Z-Wave devices from Samsung SmartThings to Home Assistant.

Initially, I was a bit hesitant. SmartThings had been my starting point back in 2017, and it had worked well enough. However, the cloud dependency, random outages, and lack of control kept bothering me. So, I finally decided to make the switch.

The most challenging part was excluding and re-including each device one by one. But surprisingly, keeping Automations and Dashboards from breaking turned out to be easy. The secret was simply naming them exactly the same.

The responsiveness of Home Assistant is significantly better compared to SmartThings.

The biggest relief was knowing that my setup is no longer at the mercy of random outages or corporate decisions.

If anyone is considering making the switch, I can assure you that it’s worth it in the long run. It may require some effort, but it’s definitely worth it. But be sure to start out with a good controller I’m using a Zooz 800 Series Z-Wave Long Range.
