Music Assistant 2.0: Your Music, Your Players

What integration are those airplay speakers?

These are the music assistant instances setup through the Airplay player provider in the settings panel.

Is a home assistant service. However what you describe are not native HA media_player entities. I am unsure if the HA services can be applied to MA music players.

Yes that is actually ok. The MA integration just fills in the gaps between what the HA service calls can do and what MA can do.

Obviously something weird going on here. Probably best to ask about this on Discord or GitHub

yeah, its all very strange indeed.

I think Iā€™ll go back to the Logitech media server. I just donā€™t seem able to get this to work properly at all. Looked promising and itā€™s a nice piece of work but it just playing on speakers at random.

Understand but FYI you are the only person reporting thisā€¦?

What expectation should I have in terms of the time it takes to delete a music provider with lots of entries ? I have a Plex server with about 67,000 tracks. Adding it doesnā€™t seem to take that much time, under 5 minutes I believe. But removing it is another matter. Itā€™s been at least 20 minutes and there are still 24,000 tracks to remove. HA is running on an AMD 5700G APU, with 8GB of RAM and 4 cores assigned to the VM, under VMWare. Itā€™s stored on a very beefy striped array of 5 x 4TB NVMe.
My Qobuz playlist in comparison is quite small. I have not yet tried directly sharing the same tracks that Plex currently serves through SMB/CIFS.

Is there a way to play music through your spotify connect devices? for example using the spoticast plugin?

A time is not specified. Care is taken not to overload the server during this process.

Not at this time

Why would your need to contact an external server to delete stuff?

I assume @OzGav meant the server Music Assistant is running on, not the external Plex server, which Iā€™m running on the same physical machine, on the host OS, with HAOS in a VM.

Still, it seems to me that the process of removing a provider and its associated library shouldnā€™t be taking longer than adding the provider and all its contents to the library. Maybe the task is running at too low a priority ? My hardware is beefy enough and unlikely to be overloaded, so this is an an inconvenience.

Hi all. Just getting started with musicassistant - very excited.
Can I ask a question about multi-room streaming over different protocols - can it be done? Most of my speakers use airplay, but just one (an old Sonos) does not, but it can link via Sonosā€™ protocol. Can this add-on coordinate multiroom to both airplay and sonos systems at once?
Hope that makes sense

In theory but the results wonā€™t be great. It wonā€™t play in sync across protocols and there maybe other issues. If you want to try you will need to put them all in a ā€œUniversal Groupā€

Thank you. Works ok - not too bad! All depends if you have speakers positioned close that you can hear multiple at once, I think. My downstairs speakers are nicely in sync (airplay) and the upstairs speaker is far enough away I donā€™t notice any difference.

As a KODI user I am trying to experiment with Music Assistant. I like the possibilities. But getting a few hiccups.

My music is on a SMB share. FLACs ripped from my CDs. Tagged with Picard and includes Musicbrainz IDs. Artwork added via Picard. All configured for KODI.

1\ I donā€™t use embedded artwork. Cover image is called cover.jpg in the folder with the music but hardly any of it is showing. My albums are generally in the form: \Artist\[year] Album Title\ but all have correct Picard and MusicBrainz tags.

From reading this thread I see that I must have music in folders exactly named the same as the album tag for the art to work? Is there any way around that? For example I have multiple copies of Dark Side of the Moon. I literally canā€™t put them all in the same named folders.

2\ Is there any kind of ā€œ.nomediaā€ type block available. In the album folders there are often subfolders with other items which I block from KODI scans with a .nomedia file to say ignore the folder.

3\ Any way to download Artist images en-mass? Or do I have to supply individual JPGs for each artist? Iā€™ve not quite worked out why some artists get images but other donā€™t.

4\ Any way to filter the Artists to only those not on VA compilations? Or sort in order of how many tracks? Having a big list of 2500 artists makes it kinda hard to find stuff to play.

5\ Would love it if Music Assistant could integrate with the current KODI addon and play from that as a sourceā€¦

Ignoring those questions, am certainly impressed with the work here that links everything together. It is giving me some nice puzzling decisions to makeā€¦

Probably a good idea to post those as feature requests on GitHub ā†’ music-assistant Feature Requests And Ideas Ā· Discussions Ā· GitHub

FYI, maybe mention to them there that Kodiā€™s wiki has good documentation for how Kodi handlers external artwork files, external NFO files with metadata and embedded music tags so maybe a good idea to adopt the same standard for external artwork support?

That is a great idea.

Plex also has a method for delimiting if something wish to be ignored, or even ways of hinting if the folder/file name is non compliant:
