I stopped my installation.
When I needed to connect to their server with my whatsapp, was my breaking point.
It is a Russia located company.

I wouldn’t trust green api since they asked for connection via their server and the company itself in russia.

Hi

I have the integration working, and I can send messages to a chat in Whatsapp (Only I am in the chat)

The issue I have is that the message arrival does not notify me - it just arrives silently in the group. I suspect that’s because it looks like the message was sent from myself.
Does this mean i need to set HA up with its own whatsapp account and link that account rather than my own?

The same for me. So i use a prepaid SIM with another number. and the russian company just get an empty whatsapp account.

@Tomer_Klein this is amazing but I’m not clear on the limitation, sorry to ask a dummy question :slight_smile:
On the site I see the limitation to be:

  • Only 3 chat per 1 month
  • Only 100 whatsapp checks per 1 month

In my case I need to send alerts from home assistant to either 1 group or 4 mobile numbers (my family :slight_smile: )
It could be 1 message a day or several depending on the events.

I do not have “chat” nor I think I use the “whatsapp checks”, am I right?
will it work?

This is because you are sending messages to yourself (from same user), so no notification appears. IF you have other SIM (and number) with whatsapp , you can use it for HA integration, then you will receive notification

Hi, I was looking for integration of HA with Whatsapp, and I found this one, by further looking to the details, I’ve got some questions and concerns, please feel free to correct me, if my understanding is wrong:

  • this is a proxy service, and I would be granting green-api full access to my account, hence it can see all my Whatsapp messages, right?
  • the service Green API is hosted in Russia and the main developer seems to be from Israel?
  • what security and privacy policies are implemented on green-api?
  • under what juridiction is green-api?

I’m struggling to get a NEWLINE into the text though. Can you share an example on how I can get a CR between 2 lines of text please.

Hi,

first let me say thanks for the integration.It works fine for me with “text and images”. hd images works fine too and you can use your own group/s.

for those whos interested:

  • it only tooks me max 10 minutes for registration, integration and testing…so its easy
  • it looks like that greenapi can see all of active whatsapp chats of your phone, because i have see all of it on their website.
  • greenapi lets handle whatsapp nofifications simply for homeassistant and works as a bridge (like a proxy) between whats app (home assistant) and your phone.
  • i dont know whats up with privacy but i think that all data (text, images etc.) you send and all data out of the groups/groupmembers (names, phonenumbers etc.) are possibly visible for greenapi.
    At least it is written in thier (greenapi) privacy notes that everything is encrypted (end-to-end) and cannot be read.
  • if it becomes known, i think legally (in germany or/and the rest of EU) there could possibly be problems with sending images of a doorbell etc…

so my setup for it…a clean, old handy with no contacts/no other chats (only the group) and a prepaid card. integration fast and im fine with it.

Thanks for this, @Tomer_Klein. I have been using the “whin” service on rapidapi.com to send WA messages from HA, but it had issues, including almost no free messages (so I signed up and paid a bit monthly) and getting your WA account banned (so I cancelled).

I don’t like the fact that Green API is located in Russia, I would rather not have anything at all to do with anything Russian. But I need a working WA solution in HA so I just got a pre-paid card and I’m using that with Green API to send messages from HA to our “Family Home Asistant Group”.

It took me literally 2 minutes to switch from the RapidAPI solution to using Green API so it’s very fast and easy to set up. So far so good with instant message delivery.

Not all that worried about privacy with this, it’s not all that interesting to know when our dishwasher and washing machine have finished their program cycles. :slight_smile:

But, still looking for a similar service from someone non-Russian…

  1. Do you need to authenticate every few months by scanning QR?
  2. I can send image but no video?

You should be aware that linking your profile to green-api gives the service access to all chats. I think that’s a bit too permissive. For me, it’s not acceptable just to receive a few notifications.
