No Neutral No Capacitor Light Switch Solution

Hi all,

In the office I have a second Home Assistant instance running.

I would like to add a light switch to Home Assistant, but it only has two live wires. I am considering getting a ZBMINI-L along with a SONOFF Universal Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus

I believe the Sonoff ZBMiniL doesn’t need a capacitor?

Has anyone used this solution or have any different recommendations to smartify a no neutral light switch?

I’ve looked at Moes ZigBee Smart Light Push Button Switch Single Pole No Neutral Wire Required EU but this is limited to use with their own Tuya Zigbee Gateway.

Thanks

Not sure about the status today but I understand that the initial batch of SONOFF ZBMINI-L released was quite buggy, however firmware update might have solved some or all of those known issues, see https://community.home-assistant.io/t/sonoff-zbmini-l-zigbee-3-0-smart-switch-by-itead-works-without-neutral-wire-and-based-on-cc2652p-so-could-maybe-also-work-as-a-zigbee-router/384644 and https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt/issues/11676

FYI, ITead have released a newer firmware for Sonoff ZBMINI-L that is meant to address delay issues:

We have raised the pull request for the OTA update image on github Pull requests · Koenkk/zigbee-OTA · GitHub.
Once it is approved, you can download the image and update the ZBMINI-L devices.

Feature: Added Poll Control Cluster private attribute 0xFF00 (enable/disable configuration), the default Poll Control Cluster initial configuration is disabled
Bugfix: Random shutdown issue

Here is something that you might want to look into Lutron Diva smart dimmer for Caséta system:

Just be aware pretty much any no neutral switch might need a cap for certain loads. They all leak current to some degree.

Older LED bulbs are the most likely suspects. Usually easier just to change bulbs if there is an issue.

I know I have seen such reports for the zbmini-l (and others).

Bumping this to check if anything new or better has come along in the past year. Moes seem to be the way to go now, however they seem to require Tuya and I really dislike Tuya, it’s awkward to set up, it’s another link in the chain and it’s a weak link at that. Reviews seem to be getting worse too.

Aqara (Xiomi brand) has Zigbee relay T1 in two variations: with and without neutral wire. I am using both of them in my house and they work great. They work with both ZHA and zigbee2mqtt although you get more configuration options in zigbee2mqtt.
