Noob setting up Z-Wave

After some difficulties I have just gotten to the point where I can add devices to my Z-Wave network. But I don’t see them in devices and I don’t see how to use them.

Is it because HA just doesn’t know how to support my devices?
Is it because my Z-Wave JS reports a problem and it won’t start?
Is it that my expectations are too high and I just have to do some coding to do things with these devices?

HAOS installed to a Beelink Mini.
ZST39 LR connected to a 3 foot USB extension cable plugged into a USB2 port.

I have made good progress but I’m not where I want to be yet!

Thank in advance!

Did you re-install the integration?

You want to be running just the “Z-Wave JS UI” add on, not the “Z-Wave JS” add on as well. (Yes, the naming is confusing!)

To make sure, go to Settings → Add-ons. If “Z-Wave JS” is there, click on it and verify it is not running (the icon in the upper right should be red not green.) If it is running, click on “Stop” and also turn off the “Start on boot” and “Watchdog” switches if they are on.

I thought I removed the old add-in.
But something I read made me think ZUI would use it and that was why it was back.

I have now uninstalled it disabled it, restarted HA . It finally seems to be gone for good.

ZUI still seems to be working, diagnistic health checks of the powered plugs are good.

Can I expect them to start populating in the settings>devices list now? Or is that a naiive expectation?

You need (2) things to get your devices to show up in home assistant. You need the Z-Wave JS or Z-Wave JS UI addon installed (NOT BOTH) then you need the Z-Wave JS Integration installed.

ADDONS are configureed by going to SETTINGS > ADDONS
INTEGRATIONS are configured by going to SETTINGS > DEVICES AND SERVICES

You can find detailed instructions on how to setup and use Z-Wave JS UI and the Z-Wave JS Integration by going to SETTINGS > ADDONS > CLICK ON THE Z-Wave JS UI addon > click on the documentation tab.

Did you read the link? It’s the add-on documentation. Sounds like you are mixing up integration and add-on.

Just read the link (or open it from the add-on page) and follow the instructions starting from “Now it is time to set up Home Assistant”.

RTFM as we always say!
I was stuck on the default url and didn’t change it to ws://a0d7b954-zwavejs2mqtt:3000

Thanks for the pointer!
