Getting HA up and running qualifies as “reasonable effort” when you spend 32 hrs trying to get a project up and running, because i have no Linux/Unix background, asking for help is why these forums exist, otherwise HA would stay in closed groups of the same ppl

Sorry for the confusion.
I thought you used the other way since you selected that one as the solution. 
The “right” way is pretty subjective. My opinion is if it works it’s “right”. I try to adhere to the k.i.s.s. principle as much as possible. 
right, all i know is HA is up and running and I’ve been able to add components
