OZW stuck on "Starting Z-Wave Network... This may take a while depending on the size of your network."

OK. If it’s still stuck, it may be due to something different than the original issue brought up here. In my case it used to print a lot of messages non-stop on the log file.

What browser are you using?

I’ve found sometimes the page doesn’t refresh and just needs a quick poke from a empty cache and reload.

Chrome. After empty and reload cache, no change.
fyi, it’s same on my mobile.

This happens everytime you restart HA?

Yes after each reboot :frowning:

Have you tried running the following command: sudo systemctl disable ModemManager ?

root@homeassistant:/usr/share/hassio/homeassistant# sudo systemctl disable ModemManager

Failed to disable unit: Unit file ModemManager.service does not exist.

From your host machine not inside the docker.

Yes with ssh on my host

fyi, as indicated in the documentation I purge it with : sudo apt-get purge modemmanager

cf. “Platform specific instructions” in https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/z-wave/installation/

Does this happen to be running on a NAS like synology?

No, it’s Debian 10 VM on Proxmox

fyi, I reinstall modemmanager to test and OZW_Log.txt is more verbose …
But, my z-wave network work fine

You could try the zwave.stop_network service from the Developer Tools -> Services menu and see if it stops the zwave stack. Your log will say it’s stopped and give you some network stats if it worked correctly.

OK, I purge again modemmanager for respect documentation …

I don’t have this service, just zwave.start_network. Nomal?

Normal if zwave hasn’t started fully. I suspect something is going wonky between your VM and the hardware.

why do you say that zwave hasn’t started fully?

Due to the fact that you’re missing the services stop_network, heal_network, etc.

OK, I restore old snapshot in HA 0.101.3, and I find all zwave services. Good steep

I try :

zwave.stop_network

I’m in the process of converting from Smartthings to HA. I just installed Hass.io on a brand new Raspberry Pi 3b+ and am using a Nortek USB combo that has both Zwave and Zigbee. I’m using the web UI and was able to get the zwave portion of the USB stick added to HA. However that zwave network did not start and when I go to the network config, I see a message that the zwave network is stopped and a button to start it. When I click the start is just spins forever and never starts the zwave network. I rebooted the RP and after reboot the HA log shows:

EDIT: I was able to SSH to the server. The zwave and zigbee devices were not part of tbe dialout group and I made that change. However, the “homeassistant” user was not part of that group and does not appear to exist.

2019-12-01 21:57:27 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.zwave] Z-Wave not ready after 300 seconds, continuing anyway

Any update on this issue? Seems to happen randomly after I restart

You’d need to post your OZW_Log.txt file, the first 10-20 lines would suffice.
