Seems he can’t find the power supply. I looked and they cost $10 online. Shipped is $45. So $55 in it all together.
Since HA doesn’t need much resources, having ultra light NUC is advantage in terms of oower usage - especially for UPS.
I have an older NUC that has external 12volt power supply, so I was able to just add lithium based pass-through battery pack, and when power goes off, my HA works for hours.
Either way, go with ssd instead of hdd or sd.
And I highly recommend getting x64 compatible - my unit is x32 and some integrations require dirty workarounds
I was wondering since I have no intention of running Plex, security cameras, etc since I run them off my NAS…would a Celeron do the job? If so,which Celeron version?
A Celeron NUC of almost any flavor will happily run HA, plus a number of add-ons. As you mentioned, you have no intention of running any CPU heavy tasks, so you’ll be perfectly fine.
Think about it like this, HA runs perfectly fine on a Pi3, so a Celeron is like a super charger in comparison.
I started on a pi. When I got interested in homelab I installed proxmox on an old pc and ran home assistant in a vm. Over time my tastes/hobbies shifted and I now prefer the simplicity and lower maintenance of a dedicated machine so I recently bought a NUC6CAYH and am loving it.
When I get the itch to tinker with new software, I still have the other machine. It runs unraid with a handful of docker containers; and it’s nice to know my lights won’t be affected when I inevitably bite off more than I can chew with a Saturday night project
Just picked up a Intel Nuc Barebones NUC7CJYH for $58,new in box.Thought it was a good deal. Just need to add ram and ssd.
