Problem to install Hassio on usb drive

Hi,

I want to install Hassio on a usb disk drive. I got stuck with the part of gparted. see the picture below.

What can i do?

Greetings

Johan

8GB isn’t really going to be big enough for HASSIO.

I don’t understand at what part are you stuck?

I want to install it on a 320Gb usb disk drive. The 8GB is just for trying out.
But the part where i’m stuck is that /dev/sdb4 can not be read in Gparted and therefore not be resized.

Johan

Why do you think it needs to be?

I followed this because i want to boot from the usb harddrive.

That guide was for RESIN-OS based HASSIO, not current HASSOS based Hassio

Oke thanks for the information.
Is there a new way to install the Hassio on a usb diskdrive and boot from it?

Yes, read @flamingm0e ’ s post. You have to use the old ResinOS Hassio image but this will not work with the pi3b+. There is currently no way to boot HassOS from USB.

I believe there is a HassOS that is coming that will do this.
It is possible to use Dale3h’s script to install Hass.io on a Pi3B+… It is effectively Raspbian Lite + Docker + Hass.io. It works really well. I was using it before I switched to my NUC.

Thanks for the help
I will try soon, when i have time, to install with the Dale3h’s script.
First i want to build a test environment to test Hass.io and to learn how to use it.
Currently i’m running the home automation with a vera lite but Hass.io seems so much easier to let the different house devices to communicate to each other.

Did you manage to make it work?
