I know this is outside the scope of HA but know many of you are running it through Proxmox and thought I’d give it a shot.
I just got my Beelink Mini S12 Pro with the N100 CPU and have been trying to install Proxmox for a couple hours now with no success. I’ve tried using both 7.4, 8.1 and 8.2 but neither works and I’ve gotten different error messages at different times throughout the debugging process.
My first issue was that I was unable to even start the GUI based installer on 8.2 which I got around by doing the terminal version. I had the same issue on 7.4 but managed to get the installer to start there by following this guide in debug mode: Generic Solution when install gets FrameBuffer Mode Fails | Proxmox Support Forum
Once I got by that issue I’ve seen a few different error messages like that the package libperl wasn’t able to be installed, that the command unsquashfs failed and that some other package failed. I’ve also had an issue where Balena Etcher fails to flash 8.X to the USB but 7.4 was successful.
I’ve tried two different USB-sticks, one of which is brand new at 64GB. I’ve tried burning the ISOs onto the USBs using Rufus, Etcher and Ventoy on Windows as well as using dd on Ubuntu but nothing seams to work. I’ve also tried both the download link and the torrent link for both 8.2 & 7.4 and I’ve verified the SHA of both ISOs. I’ve also tried both ext4 and XFS.
I can also mention that the Beelink has a wired ethernet-connection.
What am I doing wrong? How do I make this work before giving up and just skipping the virtualization of this machine?
Yes, that’s the first thing I did thanks to following the guide mentioned above. I’m unfortunately starting to think both of my USBs are bad or something cause it fails on different packages or files each time I flash them but I get the same error if retrying multiple times without flashing
Sorry you’re having such a frustrating experience! Did step 1.2 (Download) seem to work ok? What exactly happens during step 1.3? And please confirm that you’re doing these two steps on an existing PC separate from your new Beelink.
If those steps seem to have completed successfully, please help us understand during which steps in the Guide you encountered your errors.
Step 1.2 went as expected and I even verified the hash which was correct. I did however at the end when I suspected the USB stick of being bad notice that I had a different hash when the file was transferred to the stick compared to on the HDD of my desktop that was used to download when using Ventoy which meant that the entire ISO was copied over.
Step 1.3 was sometimes successful and sometimes not using both Rufus and Balena Etcher when trying 8.2 & 8.1. 7.4 was always successful though based on their verifications but it obviously wasn’t the case in the end.
The errors occurred on the Beelink during the installation process due to the USB being bad. The first issue was that the graphical installer wouldn’t even start at all. I was able to get around this by following the guide linked in my original post on 7.4 and by using the terminal installer on 8.X. Once I was passed this issue I went through all the options in the installer successfully but it failed during the installation process at the end (step 1.11-1.12) due to some missing file or package. And I’m guessing the reason for getting different errors each time was that each flash resulted in a different file being placed on the bad sector of the USB
