I am in the same boat. I want to move away from the SD card but the NUCs are expensive/overkill for HA. I want to use TensorFlow eventually but will probably wait for the Hassio add-on version. If I’m waiting for that, might as well wait for the Hassio SSD capability. I’m interested to see how taxing the TensorFlow add-on will be and if the Pi3 can handle it. If anybody has a better idea, I’m all ears…
Snapshot restore worked perfectly here today. My image crashed completely during the night. Not sure what caused it, but i think it was my Hassio sql dB. Luckily the snapshot (123MB) was just created hours before that.
I flashed the set card with a new Hassio image. Installed samba addon and copied my snapshot back. Then I choose for a full wipe and restore. After about 30 minutes my installation was rebooted and fully running again.
What I did was follow:
- burn a new SDCard
- from old SDcard copy the backup folder to the new one
- boot from new SDCard, let it prepare his install
- create account
- goto the Hass.io screen then snapshot.
All my backup files where there again - restored all files except the hass.io itself, because at point 3 it install latest version.
- reboot system
- login again at your portal
Home Assistant 0.115.6. and 0.116.4. I tried twice recovery from full snapshot few days old. And the hacs was presented but not activated (left-side bar). I wasn´t able to remove or add hacs again. Deleted every hacs file and after restart hack disappeard logically, but new installation of hacs didn´t finished with final left-side bar, tried twice. (AWAIR didnt work also no reason why). Useless recovery from clean install three times together. Only manully recovery step by step I was able to build my HA with hacs again but only on the second attempt. First manuall recovery ended when I change hacs integration sonoff from local to both cloud and locat to get all devices. The main lovelace failed to load and it´s not mistake of browser, it´s really crazy error with no way around. No error reported in logs. You can remove all the devices you have and try delete any lovelace file, but the lovelace is broken forever. No device, lovelace, browser problem, somewhere in the core. Hate HA.
