Hangouts is broken at the moment, the fix is (or should be, I havent tested it yet) in 0.80.1.
Did you log into hangouts as your Home-Assistant user and accept the invitation to the Hangout?

I’ pretty sure that’s required when establishing a new conversation with a new contact for the first time.

And I got ‘Session closed’ error on 80.1 just today. I believe I have identified the reason.
My provider resets the internet connection once in a couple of weeks and every time I see ‘Session closed’ in the log I also see in my router logs that the session has been reset. Restarting HA brings it all back to normal.
Looks like the integration should try to reconnect but it does not.

who is using hangouts? i have this issue since a week, after a while hangouts doesnt send messages anymore and i do need todo a reconnect service

I’m still using it and it appears to be working OK for me.
yes, it works for me too, but my log file is flooded with those error messages
