Sensor overloads history cards with too much data

Hi,
I have am MQTT smart outlet that sends Kwh measurements to HA. It sends about 2 measurements/second. I’d love to show a graph of the usage over the last 24 hours, but the lovelace history graph card and the custom-mini-graph cards both choke pretty hard with that much data. In particular, the /api/history/period call times out when trying to return 172,000 data points and then the graph tries to consume it.

Is there a way to tell HA to only accept measurements at a certain frequency? There aren’t any settings on the device to change the reporting frequency there.

I would try excluding this sensor from the recorder.
