I understand that you need a momentary switch on the wall plate so the dimming works correctly. If the wallplate had two momentary rocker switches would it be posible to configure one for on/off and the other to dim?
no…the shelly only has one connection for one switch, and uses logic to control the direction of dimming.
one push → on/off
one long push → dim one direction
next long push → dim the other direction
continuous push → cycle the dimming up and down continuously.
And just a tip on how tackled it…I place a piece of foam on one side of the switch…which made it a momentary switch
Thank you for the reply and clarifying that. I like your solution. I’ll stop. I’m thinking I’ll use this type of switch.
Hehe, the issue I had with the switches is that a (nice) momentary switch turned out to be 3 times the price of my dimmers
PS: just FYI, I used these Moes-QS-WIFI-DS01 dimmers, at first I flashed them with tasmota, but I switched later to EspHome (which is a bit better)
You can still convert an existing switch to retractable with a tiny spring. At least for the eu/uk version
@ferbulous They have us pretty locked down here on what we can do with electrical in oz so the conversion is probably a no.
@aceindy yes you are right about the switches. Price can get $$ Also, finding the right one to go with the shelly. The one I liked and linked above is aparently not a momentary switch says the sparky. I need a bigger switch as My wife has arthritus.
Any people from australia have any recomendations?
Not even a simple modification like this?
It’s the only difference with momentary switches, it’s got the spring inside
My modification is almost the same, except it doesn’t use a spring, but a piece of foam.
(which makes it more universal too )
Right i remember that post
Can it really last though? Which type of foam should i be looking at here
Basically you can use any foam, i sliced a piece from a face cleaning sponge.
And by adjusting the size, you can adjust the “bounciness”.
So far I only replaced one piece (after 4 years) out of 4 switches…but it is very easy, takes less then 30 secs😉
