Somfy Covers - RTS / RS485 Based Integration

Hi,

From all of the threads talking about integrating Somfy RTS covers, they have been based on the (from my experience) flaky Tahoma / switch etc. hardware and local or cloud APIs that may or may not be supported by Somfy / Overkiz in future - or custom radios.

I know its kind of legacy but has anyone looked at building an integration based on Somfy’s RS485 RTS transmitter … maybe with a terminal server to at least avoid the need for a serial port. Would this be widely enough used / is there a large enough installbase of home assistant + somfy RTS?

it looks like this is what Somfy had in mind for integrating with automation - albeit probably in 1980… I think Brad Kiefer has done most of the work already with this project - https://pypi.org/project/somfy-rts/.

This is dirt cheap and better than whatever Somfy cooked up. Highly recommended. Cannot possibly be better than ancient stuff that is way more likely to be unsupported long term. And it is the only solution that can tell you the blind position.
