I have delay’s in my video streams. Anyone favoures stream over ffmpeg or the other way around? And does anyone know how to resolve the 15 sec delay? In VLC the stream has a 1 sec delay.

Hi,
Have a read of this for a more thorough explanation of why this is happening
When I started with Home Assistant a couple years ago, one of the main use cases was making a nice dashboard which included my cameras. Unfortunately this simple desire has been far from easy to achieve. In my quest for something reliable and real time, I think I have now tried every option that is open to me and realized that none of them is really perfect, but I’ve learned enough that it’s at least worth sharing so that other people have some better idea of their options and which one might fi…
If you just want to view the stream RTSP2WebRTC may be for you but there are some limitations
Home Assistant custom component for viewing IP-cameras RTSP stream in real time using WebRTC technology.
Why WebRTC:
works in any modern browser, even on mobiles
the only browser technology with minimal camera stream delays (0.5 seconds and below)
works well with unstable channel
does not use transcoding and does not load the CPU
support camera stream with sound
Hope this helps,
Cheers

Hi,
My setup is still work in progress I’m afraid but I’ve been reading through those threads for ideas and tips/tricks.
I’m leaning towards frigate for detection and RTSP2WebRTC for viewing.
I wanted to integrate nest-like person detection into homeassistant with my existing IP camera so I could do things like turn on exterior/interior lights while the alarm was armed. Ended up working well, so I thought I would post here. It detects a person in <1s.
Good luck !
