Did you ever get it working? I can run the Demo, in fact I just reinstalled it to make sure everything was working. But I only get a black screen with the back light on.

To be able to see a test image you can just add show_test_card: true to your display component. O was able to get it to show nicely with the ili9xxx platform config above.

Just to showcase what I achieved in case anyone else is interested in Status Display with icons text & color:

For temperature sensor used Shelly + HA automation to change the text, icon and color.
