Sit rep, the hotel I was in had somehow blocked Wireguard. So not able to test as a comparison.
Pleased that Tailscale was still working, albeit quite slow.
Any resolution to this?
I just set up Tailscale on my pfsense server and it’s running at full mobile network speed (11Mbps/5Mbps) but my HA dash is very slow and sometimes does not respond at all.
HA has always been flaky for me even in different houses, different ISPs and routers. Sometimes it is super fast and others it takes forever to load no matter the other variables.
I have tried both tailscale as HA addon and in pfsense. Pfsense is more reliable for me. Plus if HA goes down at least I can get to other parts of my network still.
Anyway…Using as exit node? Setup route settings to the correct subnet?
Any other VPN work better with your internet provider? If you have a direct connection you could likely use wireguard directly.
Thanks for reply.
Yes, exit and yes routing. Just slow.
Yep, next step is test using wireguard directly in pfsense (and if I can stand the pain again, OpenVPN) . Tailscale was just easy to set up so thought l’d give it a run.
EDIT: I suspect the issue is my rtsp cameras overloading the connection bandwidth …I’ll make a dash version without them and check.
EDIT 2 : YES ! It is the cameras, ok can fix that easily.
My issue seems resolved due to upping the mtu variable in my router settings, which is specifically for vpn tunnels.
