Anyone know what devices are compatible with Tasmota anymore? is there anywhere I can fond out this info easily before purchasing

Almost all UK Sonoff and Shelly devices work fine with Tasmota (the crappy USB 5V switch is the only exception that comes to mind).
Basically this isn’t hard, read the Tasmota docs:
Flashing some devices requires soldering to get the program pins connected to an USB serial devices. A short-cut for some devices is RevK’s Tasmotizer PCB:
From looking about there maybe more options than Tasmota for what I want…I can always try Tuya CloudCutter & ESPHome Libretuya

Personally, I’d support those manufacturers who offer the direct option to use FOSS firmware, and not those who promise a lot, and then don’t deliver.
